Scholarship Overview
The Mastercard Foundation, in partnership with Arizona State University (ASU), is offering 40 graduate scholarships for the 2026/2027 academic year. This is part of a 5-year initiative to train 160 young African professionals.
This unique program combines a flexible ASU Online master's degree with comprehensive, in-person support at Kepler College in Kigali, Rwanda. Scholars must be able to live in Kigali for the duration of the 2-year program.
In addition to financial support, scholars will participate in mentorship, leadership development, and a 2-month summer intensive. Scholars are expected to use their education to contribute to social and economic growth in their home countries.
Women, refugees, displaced persons, and people with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply.
Available Graduate Programs
Scholarships are available for one of the following full-time, online ASU programs:
Scholarship Value
This is a comprehensive scholarship that covers all program-related costs, including:
- Full tuition, books, and fees
Student housing in Kigali
Medical expenses
Travel to and from Kigali, Rwanda
Costs for visa applications and required English language tests
Participation in all required scholarship programming
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet all of the following criteria:
Be a citizen of an African country.
Be between 18 and 33 years old on or before the application deadline.
Be able to live in Kigali, Rwanda, for the 2-year duration of the program.
Qualify academically for admission to your chosen ASU graduate program (including English proficiency).
Have earned an undergraduate degree by July 2026.
Not have started or completed another graduate degree before July 2026.
Demonstrate a track record of leadership, community service, and financial need.
Incomplete or ineligible applications will not be reviewed.
Application Process and Timeline
CRITICAL: Do NOT apply directly to Arizona State University (ASU).
You must apply for the scholarship program first. Shortlisted candidates will be contacted for an interview and will then be assisted with the ASU admission process.

Interviews: Shortlisted candidates will be contacted via email to schedule a video or phone interview.
Final Decisions: By late April 2026.
