SanlamAllianz General Insurance Plc is looking to hire a skilled, motivated, and experienced professional for the position of Head of Information Technology (Head of IT).

This role reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer. The Head of IT will lead the technology strategy, manage infrastructure, and oversee cybersecurity and digital transformation efforts within the company. This position ensures that IT systems and processes support business goals, meet regulatory standards, and follow best practices in the industry. The Head of IT will supervise IT operations, manage teams, implement new solutions, and maintain the security and reliability of all technology systems.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

IT Strategy & Leadership

  1. Create and implement an IT strategy that supports the company’s business goals.
  2. Lead, mentor, and manage the IT team to foster high performance and professional development.
  3. Keep up with emerging technologies and trends in the insurance sector.
  4. Work closely with senior leadership to drive innovation and transformation using digital tools and technologies.

IT Infrastructure & System Management

  1. Oversee the implementation, maintenance, and improvement of IT infrastructure.
  2. Ensure the availability, security, and reliability of key insurance applications, including policy administration, claims processing, and underwriting systems.
  3. Manage cloud and on-premises IT environments to ensure scalability and resilience.
Ensure effective IT service management and support for employees and business functions.

Cybersecurity & Compliance

  1. Implement and maintain cybersecurity policies to safeguard company data and IT assets.
  2. Ensure compliance with data protection laws, industry regulations, and IT governance standards (e.g., GDPR, ISO 27001).
  3. Conduct regular risk assessments and audits to identify and address vulnerabilities.
Establish data governance policies to ensure secure and ethical data use.

Digital Transformation & Innovation

  1. Lead digital initiatives to improve operational efficiency and customer experience.
  2. Promote the use of InsurTech solutions, automation, AI, and data analytics.
  3. Oversee the development and improvement of customer-facing digital platforms, such as web portals and mobile apps.
Ensure smooth integration of new technologies with existing insurance systems.

IT Budgeting & Vendor Management

  1. Develop and manage the IT budget, ensuring cost-effective spending.
  2. Oversee procurement and vendor relationships for IT software, hardware, and services.
Negotiate contracts with technology providers to ensure quality of service and compliance.

IT Support & Business Continuity

  1.  Ensure effective IT support services for employees and business operations.
  2. Develop and maintain disaster recovery and business continuity plans.
Implement backup and recovery strategies to protect vital business data.

Qualifications and Experience

The ideal candidate must have:

  1. A bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, or a related field; a master’s degree is preferable.
  2. At least three years of experience in a senior managerial position related to Information Technology.
  3. Experience in the insurance or financial services sector is strongly preferred.
  4. A solid understanding of IT infrastructure, cybersecurity, cloud systems, and enterprise-level systems.
  5. Familiarity with insurance tech platforms for managing policies and claims.
  6. Knowledge of data protection and financial regulations is essential.
Experience managing IT budgets, vendors, and digital transformation projects.

Key Skills and Competencies

  1. Strategic Thinking: Ability to connect IT strategy with business goals.
  2. Leadership & Team Management: Proven ability to lead and mentor IT teams.
  3. Cybersecurity & Risk Management: Strong grasp of data security best practices.
  4. Project Management: Experience in guiding IT projects from planning to execution.
  5. Problem-Solving: Analytical mindset for identifying and addressing IT challenges.
Communication Skills: Ability to explain complex IT concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Additional Knowledge & Technical Skills

  1. General insurance industry knowledge.
  2. Programming skills.
  3. Proficiency in Oracle and SQL.
Report writing expertise.
